Friends of St. Johannes

St. Johannes, for a small church, has had an amazing ministry!   Built in 1841, the congregation today holds fast to its mission of, "being a community of faith and prayer . . . providing time for worship, space for silence, commitment to ecumenism, and inclusive love and care for all people that they may discover the heart of God in the heart of the city." 

According to parish records, in this building there have been:

• 4,230 baptisms;

• 1,489 confirmations; and

• 1,727 marriages.

As one visitor put it, "We love it, because it is intimate and holy!"

Time has taken a serious toll on the sanctuary, parish building, and adjacent parsonage.  The time has now come where major repairs and restoration are necessary in order to preserve St. Johannes for future generations.  The current membership, although steadily growing, is only a little over 200 members - certainly not enough to financially support a project of this magnitude.

Please consider making a contribution towards the restoration and preservation of this little "jewel" of a church. The first phase will involve repairs to the roofs, in order to prevent further interior damage.  The cost of this phase alone is estimated at $30,000.00.  Future phases will include structural repairs, interior plaster work, painting, electrical upgrades, repairs to stained glass windows, and repairs to the pipe organ.  A gift toward the preservation of this beautiful and historic little church is a perfect way to remember a special friend or relative.
